So i installed ubuntu 8.10 yesterday and was using it for some time (around 1 hr). Now I am noticing that the left side of the touchpad is getting a bit warmer and by the time i switched it off it was quite warm. Wondering if its normal or do i have to do anything?

I noticed the same. What is placed between the touchpad and the storage expansion port?

I think the keyboard is the heat sink! Not sure if you're suggesting that it's hotter with 8.10 than 8.4.1 (i'm not going to upgrade mine as it's working almost perfectly now), but I seem to remember seeing a picture of an Aspire One with numbers showing how hot the various parts of the keyboard get. The hottest part of my PC is underneath the 2 key - I guess the CPU is around there somewhere.

Simplest fix is to let the fan go from time to time. :) Hot netbook is the price to pay for a silent netbook. ;)

So how to do that? Is there any script that I should execute?

Do you run the acerfand script that most of the Ubuntu on Aspire One receipes prescribes? If so a
    Code:
    sudo pkill acerfand
should boot the fan rather instantaneously.
