ao531h (zg8) screen dims when not inactive

I have an Aspire One AO531h (zg8) that I've upgraded to Windows 7. I have all of the official Acer drivers (including Synaptics) since 7 is supported on this model even though it came with XP originally.

Screen dimming doesn't appear to notice trackpad activity! If I'm surfing the net, scrolling, clicking, etc, the screen will dim after the time set in power options as if there were no activity. I have to reach up and hit one of the keys on the keyboard such as an arrow key or the spacebar, to undim the screen. I would expect the screen to NOT dim when I'm browsing the net actively.

Is there any way to fix this so it will see the trackpad as activity as well? Thanks!
