    Hi All,

I am after a bit of advice for choosing a new laptop. it is to be used for playing H.D. films from a hard drive via a projector. Also for playing music files into some very high quality active loudspeakers which have optical inputs.
So basically I am wanting to know what current laptops have a spdif output.
I have never used Apple and don't want to start.
I have recently had a very bad experience with a Lenovo laptop and so am reluctant to buy this make again.
    Any tips?

Welcome to the laptop forums site.

Many manufactures stopped supporting s/pdif like dell in 2011

You can get different converters however that includes usb to spdif ,
    hdmi to spdif.

Ebay is the best place to look for a converter.

Thanks. I think that may be the way forward.

Yes, a converter would be more than likely your only option.
