I have this ZG5 acer and it used to work well, but recenlty when you turn it on it loads up except you can only see the bottom toolbar and the top right search box, i tried rebooting it, but to no avail. It will no connect to the internet but it recognises when a memory stick is plugged in and will open it, what is the best course of action here. It would appear to be a software or operating system fault.

I hope this is in the right place

Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

    Thanks

Sounds like you've got a Linux (Linpus) system there, I'll move this to the Linux technical section where you might get more drive-by traffic, you should get an answer quicker there.

I have the same model except mine came with xp which I've replaced with linux. The only problem I've had is when I lost the whole display. A bios update was necessary to fix it. I will paste the instructions in case you need them.
Your best bet would be to see if you can run another operating system from a usb flash drive. If you can do this successfully then the installed Linpus? may be damaged and need replacement. I have no clue about Linpus and it is not well loved by users here. You would need to research on how to reinstall Linpus. There may well be quides in this forum.
If I were in your shoes, I would try one of the many linux operating systems available. They run very well on this netbook. You can look at the recommendations in this forum. It is fairly easy to install an operating system to usb flash drives. Many of the distributions have their own tools for this or you can unetbootin.
Remember, google search is your friend. Good luck and let us know how you fare.

    Acer Aspire One BIOS Recovery
The AA1 has a built-in BIOS recovery routine, making it possible to flash the BIOS even if the system doesn't boot anymore. It's only meant for emergencies and may void your warranty, so use at your own risk.

    Follow every step carefully!

First format an USB stick with FAT.

Download the latest BIOS, and put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file in the root directory of the stick. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD, that's important. Do not remove the USB stick.

Turn the AA1 off, make sure both battery and AC adapter are connected. Press Fn+Esc, keep it pressed and press the power button to turn the AA1 on. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds, the power button will be blinking. Press the power button once. The AA1 will now initiate the BIOS flash, do not interrupt it under any circumstances. After a while the power button will stop blinking, and the AA1 will reboot shortly after. Wait patiently.

The BIOS has been flashed and all settings reset to default.

If for some reason you made a mistake during the procedure and it doesn't reboot by itself wait 5 minutes before turning it off, just to be safe that it isn't still flashing the BIOS.
