    Location: Starbucks Coffee House
Problem: Acer One giving black screen
Even more annoying problem: Two fat chicks giggling

I went to Starbucks to do some quick work. I was all looking cute and sassy (but not slutty...it was close to 90 degrees by the way). I got a nice expensive white leather pouch to go along my pearl white Acer One. All of a sudden while listening to some music, the whole computer screen gave a black screen. So I panicked---I was working on a word doc when black screen occurred, trying to figure out if I pressed any wrong buttons by accident.

Then there's another problem, 2 obnoxious fat chicks giggling at me. Apparently, they noticed the problem I was having and offered to help. But they actually ended up annoying me instead. One fat chick in a raspy and commanding voice said "Try forcing it to shutdown", then she adds "is that a new mac?" I told her "No its something else". Then out of the blue, she said "oh ok...", with a scoffing attitude, while they continued giggling. So I turned my back and asked them what was so funny, the other fat chick said "nothing really", then they continued giggling. They were using a very shiny Sony mini laptop and I started to think maybe they are making fun of my cheap Acer. So I was starting to get really embarrassed and irritated at the same time. But a quick thinker like me decided to return some words and said to them " I really like my Acer (even though I don't anymore when this black screen occurred), it's very portable and a perfect size for mobile people like me....You guys should try a more size-appropriate laptop like a 20 inches". Then I left the coffee shop.

I'm still thinking if I will return back my Acer because it would really suck if it happens again.

What I have is a Linpus with 512 MB version and 8 Gig storage. The screen just went black when playing the media player. I read the beginners section and found out that other people experiences the same issue.

Well, its always a good idea to run in new devices at home for a bit before taking them out in public. Especially if you are the type to be bothered by public humiliation...

In emergencies, you can always hold down the power button for 5 seconds until the machine powers off, and reboot, since that gets you back to the desktop in under half a minute.

I am totally sympathetic about your situation (like, totally).

but this thread is useless without pictures.

Yes she should have taken pictures of the fat chicks so we could giggle at them.

Fn+F3 under 'Running on batteries' and next to 'Turn off monitor' set it to more than 5 minutes.

Hi all, same problem here in Mexico with an A1 Linpus 8 Gb, at listening music in shuffle mode after 4 or 5 songs the screens turns black.
In this case press the house (home) key and you will see the standar desktop. and fat chicks will not notice.

Are you letting the computer idle? If so, there is an easy solution.

I don't have it handy but as I recall there is a whole section in the book labeled Owners Manual that covers the power setting :D

Maybe the OP needs a 360 degree webcam, to check and record all onlookers!
The resulting videos would be a marketing / PR dream advertisement for Aspire One's :)
