my acer aspire 4810tz started making a high pitch noise upon startup and continues unless I use it for more than a few hours. Is it time to start thinking about getting a new one so I can convert everything over, or is it something that I can easily fix?

There are no other problems and it is about three years old.

Thank you in advance for any help/suggestions!

Could be a hard drive noise which would could mean an impending failure so back up your precious data now. May also be a cooling fan noise. Not sure how easy it would be to inspect and clean your model but you might want to look into that.

If possible remove the hard drive and start the computer and see if the noise is there if it is then it probably the fan. Also hopefully you have/or have made recovery/install discs just in case it is the hard drive.

Thank you ryptyde! Backed up my data... the noise seems to have stopped but I'm still thinking of upgrading. I will get someone to check the hard drive/fan noise and see if anything turns up.. thank you again for your suggestions!
