Acer Monitor not working with Asus laptop

    Hi - I ahve an ACER monitor - works find with my HP Pavillion laptop but I cant get it to work with my new Acer Vivobook. It just says 'input not supported' or else both screens (laptop and monitor) are blank.
    I have changed the resolution, looked to make sure the latest graphics driver was updated....but still no luck
    Any suggestions?
