I cannot figure out how to turn the touch pad on and off, even after looking through the downloaded user guide.
    All help appreciated.

    Welcome to the laptop-forums site

Go to Control Panel, and double click the Mouse properties icon device settings then settings. In the Tapping section you need to Uncheck the option of ‘Tapping’ to make sure that the Touchpad is totally deactivated

Unfortunately the Mouse portion of the Control Panel does not have the suggested settings available. I finally got in touch with the technical support where I purchased the Acer and found out that all I have to do is Function Key (Fn) plus F7. It worked fine that way.
Thanks for trying to help me, though.
