The thing im most interested from that softtware is the ability to stop the hdd clicks. Cause after i put this 60 gig hdd in my acer one it clicks every once in a while and it tends to piss me off at times... i feel like installing xp just go get rid of it lol.

Unfortunately, I do not think it is a simple port as the interface used on Windows is not available on the Mac.

It would be nice if Acer would provide fan config options in the BIOS.

Both Windows and Linux expose the interface to query and set the temp sensors / fan controllers. So writing the control mechanism for the fan comes down to reading / writing the appropriate config parameters.

For Mac, it looks like you would need a kernel that enables the querying / setting of these parameters and then a custom kernel module that you could use as an interface. Neither of which is as simple as opening up /dev/port for reading and writing (as you would do on Linux).

It would be great if I am mistaken and this ends up being much easier. I've done a lot of research over the last week and am fairly pessimistic about finding a solution. I would love to be proven wrong though...

Superhai has made a kext which enables speedstep on vanilla kernels and it also allows you to manually change clock speed and voltage.
So I guess he knows how to get to these parameters and it would make writing fan control for os x a lot easier when you'd contact him I think.
