6-cell battery!![PICS][UPDATE3]

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

Blue would be nicer, but think about of all those fingerprints.

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

Nah, black is ok. All that bulk in blue would look tacky. Also, it keeps the SKUs down: white for white and pink, black for blue/brown/( and black).

It's okay I guess ... as a stand, as an "aa1 on steroids" kind of effect, as a handle, or as a road-warrior power pak aesthetic ... but the original 3cell is still undeniably nicer and cuter.

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

Can you open the screen all the way (the same as the 3-cell battery ~150 degrees)?

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

Just wondering, does the 3-cell fit on the HDD model? Find the 6-cell really kinda big.

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

yeah the 6-cell battery does limit the angle that the monitor can fold. The maximum is about 120 degrees now. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the 3-cell can fit on the HDD version.

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

Here are a few more pictures of the One with the 6-cell battery, since I got my camera fixed.

loving the z5500's in the background..

that 6 cell is starting to grow on me, gonna buy the standard 3 cell netbook and then get another 6 cell to go in it for when i go away.

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

6-cell looks far less hideous than I previously thought. I guess I'll get one, but the price... UGH!

It's so expensive that I would prefer to buy one of those external laptop batteries which are half the price and have a higher capacity.

Thanks for all the pictures!

Can you give some detailed battery life tests with the 6 cell, like how long it lasts in web surfing, movie watching, screen brightness used, etc?

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

I'm willing to sacrifice looks for battery life. When I use my aspire one I want to be able to use it for at least 6 hrs if I want to. I got it to be mobile, small and light. 2.5 hrs just isn't cutting it for me, so even if I get a good 5 hrs out of it I will be happy. I am disappointed in having to spend $120 on it though. I personally like how it lifts the laptop up a little as well.

I am curious to know what kind of functions you guys are running during the 6hr times you say you are getting. I'm doing a lot of browsing, emails, aim, etc. My aspire one is my mobile warrior. So much better than a cell phone browsing! lol

I was running the linux os on here but put xp sp3 on it yesterday. Much easier to install different things. I am running a slimmed down version of xp though. I also don't install many applications on here. But I like to be able to do it without having to compile some code for a program to install and edit and such. That's a pain. I just want to get on it and use it. No hastles.

About viruses and such, I'm not worried about it. I'm definately not considered a new user, but no one is exempt from viruses, I know this. I do believe my experience with computers will assist me in preventing them and or removing them if they were to ever get on the os.

Worse comes to worse, format, and reinstall while working on another machine. Very easy. :)

6 cell here I come!

I have the 8GB SSD w/ 1.5g ram.

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

Well, it looks like no one notice that, in time, batteries tend to lose their original run time, so if you get 2h30 today it sure won't be there in a year or two. But if you know how to take good care of them, you'll always be kinda half-an-hour ahead all those careless users.
I think netbooks are netbooks because of their weight and size, so there is no way I'm gonna get an HDD and a 6-cell, although I'm easily amazed by those 7h of freedom. (and I'm quite sure you won't get 6h with XP and an HDD)
By the way, i think AA1 SD limits are 8Gb (don't see why), but has anyone tried 16Gb? Remember to try in SD card readers if needed!! If so, I can wait a year or two with 10/20Gb and then buy a couple of 32Gb 120x+ cards almost for free :D
OK, 6-cell it's not a "beautiful" idea but you can always buy those portable battery chargers, sure looks nicer and you can even charge your mobile phone, some other notebooks and even maybe your cameras, right?

Re: Pictures of new Aspire One with a 6-cell battery!![UPDATE2]

What we now call netbooks is actually very close to what the very first laptops from Tandy and Epson (circa 1982 - I still have them) used to be.
Lightweight, simple A4-sized notebooks with no harddisk (1 Mhz CPU and no color screen, of course).

In those days though, a battery charge (sometimes just 2 or 3 AA-cells put in) tended to last for DAYS.

The price of progress, I guess.

Sorry man, the admins moved my post without telling me. So I couldn't find this post for awhile... Anyway, here are a few screenshots to give you an idea of the 6-cell battery life.

The first two pictures are taken with battery optimized performance, LED brightness: minimal, and Wifi: off.

The third and fourth pictures are taken with battery optimized performance, LED brightness: maximum, and Wifi: on and connected to a network.

when its under £40 I think I will be getting one

Is that a rubber strip on top of the battery pack where the bottom edge of the screen can rest on?

Looking very promising, now we just need to figure out where can I buy one, hopefully Acer will allow some kind of trade in deal for our 3-cell.
