Concerning ubuntu,Well it just doesn't work well out of the box...

With xp,you get the drivers/support and you can install whatever software/drivers you want quite easily,even open source one.

Ok lot of people find it smart to spit on xp,but for me,xp is certainly the most versatile/supported OS available(and it's certainly the oldest one too.Damn it's 6 years old and it will be supported 6 years more....No OS will have lived such a long time...Just try to have a 6 years old linux working on the AAO,even a current the current ubuntu has problems)

wholeheartedly agree with you, i went to PC world yesterday hoping to have a look at the AA1, but the only netbook they had was the advent 4211, which is nice, and reeaaallly light!!

still the 6cell battery is butt ugly tho, and surely it will be putting stress on the connections if it lifts the whole netbook up like that?!

I have a few more pictures to show before I get my aspire one tomorrow. As you can see, the battery lasts around 7 hours, and the 120GB HD is split into two partitions; one with 7.6GB(probably for your OS) and the other with 106GB.

i agree it's a little off but not totally ugly. :) i like the white battery! :)

anyway, as for me, even if Linpus is not really that great, it boots up in 20+seconds and I could instantly check my emails and do some documents right away. it also shuts down instantly. Did I also mention that it is immune to 32-bit viruses? :)

Imagine if your XP got hit by a virus, you would need to reformat it again with an external drive. man, that's like maintaining two computers. my desktop is enough already. if you "accidentally" hit the power button while windows xp is shutting down, chances are it won't boot up properly the next time, and you would have to reinstall it again. that never happens on linpus.

I admit, my experience with AA1 is not really that great and sometimes it is frustrating but after i've learned it's flaws and its upsides, it's the best gadget i've ever had. :)

I'm pretty much bound to windows at the moment because I'm using a zune and the zine software only runs on windows os. also linpus seems like such a limited os to me. it pretty much disables the potential of what the A1 canreally be. please don't bash me for it. I know most of you are running it.

Have you tried running wine, or even try the demo of CrossOver? Maybe it'll run under that.

You know, Zune from M$. Why don't you ask them to make drivers for Zune on GNU/Linux? ;-) :-)

on 2nd thoughts I might get a 6 cell battery. looks like you get more grip of the laptop when you want to walk with it :-)

All right, I just got my laptop and I've been playing around with it. So far, I love it!! My family saw it and started commenting and fell in love with it as well. My sister is now considering buying one herself. Spread the love! Anyway, here are a few more pictures. Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the white battery, you'll just have to imagine a white 6-cell battery on the white One.

yes, it does actually provide a nice grip when you hold it by the battery with one hand and type with the other hand. :)

I think it looks good with the screen open, does it cover the gap between the keyboard and the screen? It looks like it does.

I like the way it looks a lot more in those screenshots. Any hesitations I had about the look of the 6 cell are gone for me.

It is still kind of ugly. Or maybe ugly is not a right word but it is less attractive and losing its main idea of something small and stylish.

At the moment 3 cell battery is enough for me and I would not sacrifice its look for extra battery life... Still it is question of what you need...

Runtime is the main aim in my book, we all have a choice (once they start shipping the 6 cell). :)

Yes, the battery does cover up the gap when you pull the monitor back.
