    Greetings:

I tried upgrading the RAM to 2GB versions of CAS 3 or CAS 4 rated RAM, and the system would not proceed to boot. They are:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820104100

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231153

My questions are (for 2GB modules), what is the fastest speed (533, 667, 800?) and/lowest CAS (5, 4?) one has installed? Could you also let me know the brand?

also, is it such that the SPDs on the mobile modules don't allow for different speeds/CAS (like in desktop modules)? Thanks again all!

Why not contact Acer customer support and find out what type of RAM they have installed on the 2GB models? Or what RAM specifications are compatible? Ideally, before buying, but better to do this late than never. Also, Crucial and Kingston are better bets for memory and have much better customer support for returns and exchanges. Worth the extra $4 over brands like GSkill.

If I get ambitious later, I'll see about opening one of those little doors on the bottom of my system and seeing if the specs are listed on the RAM module (I have a 2GB model, Vista model).

Crap. I think we both steered him wrong. I checked out the scanner on the Crucial website (which normally works like a charm), but apparently our systems just aren't in their databases yet. All it could determine was that I had a single 2 GB module. And that Dual Channel was not possible. It could not determine what memory types would be compatible for him.

My model has 2Gb of RAM. However, even with Windows Vista and a large number of open programs, I don't usually exceed 1GB of RAM usage. With Windows XP, you are even less likely to use more than 1 GB of memory.

I'd guess that most people on this forum won't see any speed gain from the extra RAM. However, it's a cheap upgrade. So if it makes you feel good, get it.
