We've owned 4 Asus EEE and are now on our first ASUS Aspire One. Very nice and nice wide keyboard.

Anyways, our question on something that's giving us fits. Our AAO is a standard USA model with 160GB and XP.

We need to install CHINESE WORD. Well, it installs but won't fire up because it is searching for a copy of Chinese Windows XP. We've enabled FarEast language support on the AAO to no avail.

We do have a copy of legit Chinese Windows XP. Is it a simple matter to install the Chinese XP using an external DVD drive and changing bootup device order? Or do we have to go through a complicated process as some other posts seem to be stating?

We really need to get that Chinese Word working.

    Thanks,
    UL

Hey, firstly its an Acer Aspire One :p, not asus. Secondly, if you have the disc, and an external dvd drive, then it will be a simple process of booting from the disc and installing :). You only need to make a bootable USB if you have no other means to install with. Hope that helps :).

If you can't get MS Word to work, consider a free alternative: Open Office. It's open source and available in many languages including Chinese. It will do roughly 90% of what Word will and is compatible with the .doc format for opening and saving.
Give the suite a try, you have nothing to loose!

I assume you are using English version of XP.

If you just want to see Chinese text or see Chinese file name, you can try:

Go to Control Panel and look for Regional and Language Option, make sure East Asian Languages options installed, and select the Chinese Taiwan or PRC options.

If you need to type in Chinese, you can install the text services and input keyboards.
