I'm looking for a media player that has a playlist and overall function similar to winamp. i can't get banshee to install and amarok is not exactly to my liking. im about to try VLC but i suspect this is mainly for video.

does anyone have experience with Xfmedia? xfce.org lists it as a compatible media player, but its not available in pirut package manager.
im thinking i should maybe try to get banshee installed and working; does banshee require gnome or kde? im new to linux and not exactly sure about how the "desktop environment" integrates with program compatibility. i would like banshee so that i can connect an ipod.
