I'm not sure what flagging commands as code brings to the party, but if it helps people, then great.

ACER APPEARS TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM

Acer has removed patch 180083 from live update. Was able to successfully download and install patch 180084 although it took quite some time. Perhaps they pulled down both, corrected the problem, and integrated 2 patches into one but anyway, that's some good news.

I was tired of frakkin' around with it. :D

Less than 1 month, not too bad comparing to any other big OS. That bug wasn't fatal at least.

Okay, I naively followed the instructions (in May) and managed to install these patches.Thought every thing was fine.
BTW was doing it over a WiFi connection. Later when I tried to use my E220 Vodafone MBB it refused to work.
(I have been using Mobile Partner since I got the AAO) Fortunately I do not rely on a internet connection for that computer.

Elsewhere I see people tracked this down to 180083 or 180084. I will have to reset my system (done it twice already).
But I wonder if the Acer fix also avoids the glibc 2.7/2.9 issues and gcc.

    Oh well here's hoping.
Aside: I notice that the "Optional" updates have an uninstall script method stored on the system,
    below /var/lib/online-updater
the "Critical" updates do not. So even when I tricked Live Update to allow me to select remove it could not do it.

Now where was that Free WiFi connection...

I'm not only having problems installing 180084, but also 180083, 180086, and 180088. And this also might be related, but when I open the add/remove from the advanced menu it asks for the root password but after I enter it, the add/remove program does not open.

With the live update it just sits at the installing prompt for hours and seams to not do anything. Any help?
