I was wondering if anyone has installed Windows 7 on an Aspire One with an SSD, could tell me about performance and such. Would one still need a hack, such as the EWF hack for XP? My AAO has 1.5G of RAM, so it should support Win7 well as far as RAM is concerned. I am wondering if Win7 handles the SSD better than XP does (without the EWF hacks).

I wud also be interested in finding out how Win 7 RTM runs on SSD model.
I run Tiny XP with Flashpoint and its really fast.

Anyone care to share their Win 7 / SSD / flashpoint / EWF experiences?

    Thanks

I have just finished installing Windows 7 RC1, not 10 minutes ago..
and suprisingly its not as bad as i thought, it as good if not better than XP without changes..
display, sound, even aero, seem to be working.
the install was LONG. but with the slow SSD its expected.
aero seem a bit slow when moving windows not as smooth as normal.
and the HD loading light is on all the time, but its starting to settle down now and is gradually slowing down..
im using IE8 to type this and it responsive, and fast.
sadly the 8GB ssd is not enough, windows 7 reads 7.5 GB after formating, and after the install 7GB is USED, and 500MB is left. so hardly any space for anything usefull.
i will vlite it, removing all the unecessary stuff, (maybe even aero). and give it another try, should be back in a couple of hours. and ill update u.

When I had W7 on mine it was fairly snappy, though the shutdown was the worst thing. Took about 3 minutes to shutdown.

Downloaded Tiny7 about a week ago,
Install took about 45 mins. After that, I left it alone for about 10 minutes so it could index files before i messed with it.
After a couple of tweaks and shutting off windows search, the hard drive is rarely used and internet is smooth with chrome.
Aero effects are turned on, and i haven't noticed any problems yet. In my experience from Acer's linux to XP to 7, i would have to say 7 is the best. The Windows folder takes up about 2.58GB and the disk has 5.15 free of 7.50. so with this distribution of Tiny7, it even has a smaller footprint than my TinyXP install.

I hadn't at the time of my post, but recently did EWF, and it is awesome. with EWF I haven't had any problems. Now it has flawless dvd playback with an external drive, which i haven't had on any other operating system.

    so I'm happy. :)

Have a standard Acer Aspire One 110 with 512Mb ram and 8Gb SSD with a 4Gb 30Mb/s SDcard dedicated to Readyboost. Worked well but a tad slow. Then installed Flashfire. No it runs beautifully! Give it a try.

Would suggest for Windows 7, to take a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=70&t=17151

Tiny 7, then install the new Flashfire, and there is a posting there also on how to get WMP and other apps back up. Speed is incredible, and it only uses about 2.5GB of space.

Done above steps and the performance is quite good, however keep in minde that with Aero enabled Windows uses like 500MB of RAM.

Running the One with Super Talent 32 Gb SSD and 1.5 Gb ram. Installed Win 7 Built 7100.
Impressed by the performance! Even with Avast antivirus. Only drawback is shut down - takes long.
