    Because there is no Unix like equivalent to the Windows registry and OSX is Unix based. Most configuration in OSX are stored inside individual text files (just like Linux) located in the /System/Library and /Library folders. OSX uses the .plist extension for this type of files but you edit them as normal text files.

    It is simply a different approach, both plain files vs a registry have advantages and disadvantages.
