I'm a student (I know, you now all hate me. Lol). I study networking, so I bought this little netbook for college and for when I'm on the trains.
It's the 8GB SSD/512 RAM/Linux version (planning to upgrade the RAM within the next week or so).
I was just wondering what version of XP you reccomend for me.
I want a version that is:
Pretty much instant on (well, as instant as XP can get),
Usable on the internet and on a network,
    Very low on resources,
And I need to be able to install software like Dev C++.

    I have about three options:
    Standard XP install,
    TinyXP Beast Edition,
    Ron's TinyXP.

I really doubt I'd ever run standard XP on this thing though.
I'd have to tweak like hell (N).

Any reccomendations would be appreciated :)

    Hey mate,
    I would recommend Ron's TinyXP!
It has got some useful programs pre-installed and it would be the best edition for a SSD.
Check out the "For a great XP eXPerience" thread (last pages) to get a *.reg (registry) file, that lets Windows recognize the L2 Cache size, and that should give a little boost as well.. :D
    Good Luck!

    Probably do that then.
There's a little part of me that would like to try out Windows 7 as well.
It seems pretty cool, but I hear it's terrible with the SSD.
    Constantly using it etc.
I suppose the battery wouldn't last too long :(

Yeah, Windows 7 is really cool. :D
I'm dual-booting with Windows XP and it works very well! I posted a thread with the drivers in the forum.
Windows 7 actually is easier on the SSD because it doesn't read and write that much...

i agree to GvidoR. i also recommend Ron's TinyXP, runs perfect. when i installed first time Ron's TinyXP it was a suprise for me. after triying many OS (linpus, win 7, xubuntu) tinyxp is what i needed. :D (inside alot of usefull preinstalled programs)
also reactOS will be super alternative when will be stable.
