what would be the best os for me?

i have win7 ultimate and i was thinking of switching to linux ive tryed ubuntu 9.10 desktop a few months ago i liked it but was a bit slower than win7 i want something like ubuntu but faster i have a AAO D250 if that helps it needs to be user friendly to im new to linux (i was planning on leaving win7 to desktop and having linux on my netbook)

 

ive been looking at kubuntu and it looks really nice would it be any faster than ubuntu since there pretty much the same as ubuntu im not looking for a super speed os just one that wouldnt be really slow just something that looks nice but runs well on a netbook and is easy to use and i dont mind trying the netbook editions of them if theyll run faster but i heard there the same as the desktop versions just look different

 

Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Lubuntu 10.04 or one of the derivatives thereof might be a good place to start. Should be faster than 9.10.
