What is your go-to for external storage on your laptop?

    I currently use 3 methods of external storage for my laptops and for different reasons. I'm curious if others do the same and if there are reasons to choose one over the other. Currently I use: an external hard drive for backups, thumb drives for various versions of files and an SD card for holding some photos but occasionally swapping it back and forth with my DSLR camera.

    What do you use and why?

    Our external archive is a hard drive of 1 TB. It is almost full and we are planning to buy an SSD. However we are still researching on the reliability of the solid state drive. Currently the hard drive is our only external storage because it is the standard storage for now.
