    It means you are not connected to a network.

    The WiFi-connection has a different icon. That icon with the cross refers to a wired network.

    Ok, thanks. But when I click on it I get the list of Wireless Network Connections ?!?!

    If you are connected to a wireless network, that whole icon should change to a "bars" one. Are you not using Windows 7 to manage your wireless network card?
