I have no idea why my wallpaper is not showing up on my desktop. When I right-click and go to Properties to change it, the correct wallpaper shows up on the example desktop, but not on my real desktop when I click out of Properties. What's interesting is that when I restart/shut down the laptop, the wallpaper shows up right before it shuts down/restarts. I'm not a tech genius, but I'm not stupid either. I know how to change my desktop wallpaper.....just not sure why it's not working. Can someone help me out, please?

    Hi there,

And Welcome to the Forum :)

Can you let me know some more information about which operating system you are using? Windows XP/7/Linux etc?

That way we'll be able to provide some specific help.

    Cheers

    Hi there,

Is it just showing a grey screen or is it showing the wrong wallpaper?
Check that the file you are selecting is on the C drive and not a USB drive or something similar.

Also, click on the button "Customize Desktop" in the desktop properties window and make sure that the Web tab isn't selected.

    Cheers

It's just showing a blue screen, no wallpaper. When I go to Properties, the example screen shows the right wallpaper, like it should be on my desktop, too, but it's not. The only time it shows up on my desktop is right before the computer shuts down or restarts, and then it's just the picture but no icons. The strange thing is, it always worked fine before, then suddenly the wallpaper stopped showing up.......

I checked desktop properties, and web is not selected.

    I really appreciate your help.

    Stephanie :)

Okay......this is interesting.....if I actually select "show web page" on the web tab of customize desktop.....and I minimize the webpage to one end of my screen....the rest of the screen shows the correct wallpaper. But when I deselect web, it goes back to blue, no picture.

I ran it and it says, "The value below is correct, no repairs needed."

Hmmm... everything I have seen, and my gut feeling is that it is something to do with the Active Desktop taking over.

Can you try selecting the web and allowing it to take google for example, re boot, switch off active desktop then reboot again and see what happens?

I'm sure you've probably done the above but i'm clutching at straws just now.

    I'll keep looking.

Try booting into safe mode (Tap the F8 Key while it's booting, choose safe mode), see if your wallpaper shows up there. It might also be worthwhile to run a couple of malware scans, some viruses / adware / spyware can take over your desktop. Also you could try changing to another wallpaper, then back again. Is the image your choosing a BMP, JPG or other?

It works! When I deselected web page again, the web page went away and the wallpaper stayed.

I appreciate all the help. Thank you thank you thank you!
