    I'm getting the same problem, which is a shame because it's a great little bit of kit otherwise, hopefully you will be able to come up with a solution.

    Thanks :)

    Thanks for this, it's so great to get rid of that ugly acer desktop. I have one problem though, when i press the trash can on the desktop something just flashes for a very short time and then nothing happens. If i right click it and choose "Open" i get the following messeage "Unable to contact the Xfce Trash service. Make sure you have a file manager installed that supports the Xfce Trash service, such as Thunar"

    What should i do to fix this? I've looked and i have Thunar installed.

    Another thing, what should you write if you want Open Office word editor on the desktop? What's the command? I would also like to know how to change the icon of a folder and the icon of the trashcan? Thanks!

    This works great!!

    Only have one problem; I can't change the desktop; I've gone to the /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops/

    But I can't add anything to the folder due to permissions, I've gone to properties to try and change the permissions but its all greyed out.

    Am I missing something obvisous here or is anyone else having this problem?

    Can anyone please let me know if there is a way to have the icons on the xfce4 desktop open with a single click instead of double clicking.
    Thank in advance, Margaret.

    Can anyone tell me how to remove icons from this desktop? I tried to delete the line from file:///mnt/home/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons.screen0.rc
    and save it, but it is renewed after reboot...

    Sorry, i am a linux-noob ;) It is the pidgin-icon... I removed the program since incompatibility for icq&fedora8 but the desktop icon a created with a right-menu-setup is still there...

    Please help

    (Had to trim the quotes to avoid the limit, so I've gone right back to the initial one!)

    I agree it's annoying (it happens to me sometimes but not always), but this isn't windows and a reboot should be truly exceptional. In six months of using the One (and quite often trying to replicate other people's problems to try to give them some guidance on this forum) I've only had to reboot as a result of any problem perhaps three times.

    Have you tried killing and restarting the Acer desktop instead? Use the run dialog and do (one after the other):

    Code:
    killall xfdesktop2
    xfdesktop2

    Hi, I've got this same issue, I uninstalled desktop-switcher and now I have a logoff button where the switcher button used to be (in addition to the logoff button at far right). How do I get rid of that? I looked at panels.xml, but not sure what to edit? This is what mine says:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE config SYSTEM "config.dtd">
    <panels>
    <panel>
    <properties>
    <property name="size" value="30"/>
    <property name="monitor" value="0"/>
    <property name="screen-position" value="11"/>
    <property name="fullwidth" value="1"/>
    <property name="xoffset" value="0"/>
    <property name="yoffset" value="570"/>
    <property name="handlestyle" value="0"/>
    <property name="autohide" value="0"/>
    <property name="transparency" value="20"/>
    <property name="activetrans" value="0"/>
    <property name="show-hidebutton" value="1"/>
    </properties>
    <items>
    <item name="gohome" id="1"/>
    <item name="tasklist" id="1"/>
    <item name="xkb-plugin" id="1"/>
    <item name="systray" id="1"/>
    <item name="xfce4-mixer" id="1"/>
    <item name="clock" id="1"/>
    <item name="actions" id="1"/>
    </items>
    </panel>
    </panels>

    Thanks for any help!

    That's the solution!

    Do you think there's a way to kill&&restart xfdesktop2 automatically on view switching?

    Also, maybe add a question to the user when clicking the button "do you want to switch desktop?"

    I'm hoping this solution works for me... because rebooting did not fix it.

    Code:
    killall xfdesktop2
    xfdesktop2
    Excuse the n00b question, but when I do this I have to keep the terminal open or the desktop vanishes. How do I do it si I can close the terminal and keep the desktop?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Can anyone advise, I have switched to the xfce desktop and removed the search bar.

    The problem is that now the right click menu on the desktop, which i had enabled, is not working anymore.

    The settings menu and a few more, nothing opens when i click on them. SO I can't get in to tweak anything.

    Can anyone help?

    Or alternatively, I'd be happy to switch back to the Acer desktop but for one little thing: I removed a few games that were pre-installed but now in the games menu there are two big blank spaces (where icons for those games used to be) that link to a blank screen, requiring me to reboot if i click them. If someone know how to change the contents of the games menu and other menus then i would be happy to stick with the Acer desktop.
