Any ideas? My xfce4 desktop stopped working properly (desktop comes up but no access to files or anything and I can even get into the hard drive). I used the recovery dvd disk to make a usb recovery thing but my AAO looks at the usb stick when booting up but carries on to boot up the broken OS instead of using the usb program. I have re-ordered the boot sequence to go to the usb pen first so I don't get it??

Any help much appreciated (I am a newb to linux)

keep getting error 39 when I try to make a usb recovery disk (apparently this means the file system is corrupt in my memory stick - doh! Memory stick is fine by the way each time until linpus tries to make the usb recovery disk).

Got sick of it so installed mandriva 2009 one version OS onto it and it is great so far. Slightly longer boot up time but much more tweakable without too many ways to break it. However, I tried to tweak the panel and managed to lose my icons - doh! Will probably stick with mandriva though if only to avoid having to buy a usb cdrom drive.

    Hi Scott

I tried to make a Linux recovery USB on my XP computer and it trashed the HDD. Acer tell me I must have selected INSTALL and not make recovery USB. They had no comment when I asked them why it showed my USB for selection. I found one poster commenting that he had been recommended by Acer to disconnect the HDD before trying to make USB.

After some effort to rebuild my XP system I then tried to make a USB recovery disk (first ensuring my HDD was disconnected) and also got the same error as you even though I had reformatted my stick. I also tried another stick and first got told it did not have enough memory (8GB) but tried again and this time got the same error again. I then tried a third stick (1GB as recommended) and it gave the same error. I should say I have used these sticks before and since with no problems in fact I since used one of them to boot Ubuntu on to the Aspireone with no problem.

My daughter has an Aspire One and I am going to try her CD to see what happens.

I assume other people have succesfully made a recovery USB stick and used it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
