USB Powered Speaker

I recently bought a b-Flex USB speaker which plugs into and gets it's power from the USB port. The packaging says that no driver is needed with Windows, Mac or Linux Kernal 2.4 and above. However, plugging it in, then turning on the netbook does not work. MPs still play through the netbook's speakers. The Audio section of the Settings does not have an option for changing the Audio Out. Any ideas? Thanks.
