I have a Sony Vaio S series laptop and was looking into upgrading the HDD to an SSD and was wondering if anyone could answer these questions.

    1. Will I be able to install Windows 7 onto the SSD from the recovery disk I created when I bought the computer?

    2. In device manager the HDD and DVD drive are listed as IDE. In the BIOS there is no option to change the drive mode (ie. IDE, SATA, AHCI). I know SSDs have to be in AHCI in order to use TRIM, how would I change this? and would it affect the DVD drive? ( I have heard that if multiple drives are in different modes they may not be recognised)

    If it helps it's a VPCS117GG.

    Thanks.

Any reason why you want to use an SSD instead of an HDD? :?
