It should use what it requires on it's own i.e if you are playing a game it will use 224 mb if not it will downlimit to what is required

Check out the Games forum. A number of people have gotten Diablo 2 and Quake 3 to run, among other things.

The thing is, some people actually got AERO to work, I really want to know how they did it.

even more important to me than games are a few applications limiting my use due in part to the limited graphics capabilities. i knew going into it that i wasn't replacing my desktop or primary laptop with the aspire one, though i've been pleasantly surprised! i rely on my aspire one for 99% of my daily work, only having to cable down to the desktop occasionally. I have however run into two applications in particular that are restricting me from their use. both illustrator cs3 and blackberry desktop manager's media manager (roxio i believe) require a minimum resolution of 1024x768. I was hoping someone had found a fix. I've searched this forum but can't find a solution, maybe i'm missing something?

    AOA150 running xp pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Easy. At your own risk though :D

    1. Right click on desktop and select "Properties"
    2. Go to "Settings" tab.
    3. Click "Advanced"
    4. Go to "Monitor" tab.
    5. UNCHEK "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display"
    6. Click OK.
    7. Feel free to change resolution to whatever you need =)). It will be scrollable with mouse. I recommend changing back after you install/use the programs that require that resolution. Good luck!

Hey guys, so I am a noob to this forum but not to the Acer Aspire one...

I have done a lot of posting on the Insanely Mac forum as that was the main reason I have purchased one of these guys. Anyways my question just to be sure I get it. The Bios says 8Mb of Video Ram, but going with what Intel says on their site it can use up to 224mb shared when the system draws on it. Is this set by the Bios? or by the system software driver? Just curious as I use OS X as my primary OS and just want to be sure.
    Thanks guys..

I have OS X installed on my AAO. The system profiler reports 64MB of VRAM for the GMA950. I'm not sure if OS X will dynamically allocate more memory like Windows does. I'll try a more graphics intense program and report back.

Great, I have noticed varying performance when it comes to using ichat, and even ran xbench to see what kind of result I got back. Xbench did well and from what I can tell in some other forums about trying to get Macbooks that have the GMA 950 to use more shread memory. I think it might be hard coded in OS X to only use 64MB. Since the Finder is graphically driven by the graphics card this makes some sense. But it would be nice to allocate it myself.
