    You're right.

I subscribe to Intel's RSS feed for that driver and it just showed up in my Google Reader today. Usually it is more timely than that.

    Sorry.

How do we get it then? Just have to wait till it appears? Hopefully it has full acceleration like it is supposed to have!

After I installed this driver I started thinking I could really notice a difference between the performance before and the performance after.

Just to make sure it was just my perception I decided to check on the Windows Experience Index.

Here's the screenshot before I re-ran the test.

    Here is the after score:

Oh yeah, it was just my imagination! This driver really kicks up the performance!

According to this the gaming performance went down but I don't care about that since I don't game on this machine but I definitely notice the aero performance boost.

This new driver is definately appreciated!
Before, AERO was so choppy you couldn't even use it, now its ALMOST as smooth as not having aero on while dragging windows etc. I knew this graphics card had to be capable of more since its using 760 some megs of my ram for memory.
Also I'm not sure but I downloaded a demo for World of Warcraft and I think it went up 1 fps? Still not playable but I figured it'd be fun to try.

    forgetaboutit!!!

Unless you haven't updated your GMA500 driver in a while, this one isn't going to make any difference.

My Windows score didn't change a bit.

    Before, it was...

    Processor 1.8
    Memory RAM 4.1
    Graphics 2.9
    Gaming Graphics 2.5
    Primary Hard Disk 5.4

The only measurement that changed was my Memory RAm from 4.1 to 4.2 for some strange reason.

Then, I watched a short video on hulu.com and my video output still "skipped".

I'm a "tweaker" from way back with my first 8086 machine that I wanted to just run a little faster and every computer since then a quarter of a century later gets the same treatment. While I would normally see small changes in performance testing programs, in truth I don't think I ever saw a "measurable" speed gain by tweaking. Disclaimer: I never tried messing with the system clock. Updating to the newest "barnburner" was a different story. I don't really care as my Acer is not used by me for video output.

Hey, I still love my little Acer for those trips out of the house.

    Hmm, interesting.

I've been updating the video driver as soon as a new driver comes out - I have subscribed to the RSS feed from Intel.

I certainly noticed a difference with this driver update.

I definitely love this little machine. I take it with me everywhere. I don't expect big things from it but it is awesome for light duty like checking my email and my google reader.

Since Microsoft is trying to make Windows users migrate form Windows XP and Vista to Windows 7, I suppose that they will stop supporting the earlier operating systems.
One of the main reasons that I moved form Windows XP to Windows 7, even though WinXP seemed like the best OS for the 751h, was tha lack of driver support for the GMA500... :x

Don't be dissappointed yet, there may just be a delay in the release of the driver for the previous operating systems.

AMEN to that! At home, I generally use my MacBook, but when I go out the door, my Acer is my computer of choice backed up with my iPhone.

On my Win 7 Pro 2GB Install

    Windows Experience Index Scores:
Driver 2020 w/ Performance Mode Disabled, Intel Display Power Saving Technology set to Off
    Graphics (aero): 2.9
    Gaming Graphics: 2.3

Driver 2020 w/ Performance Mode Endabled, Intel Display Power Saving Technology set to 6 (Max Quality)
    Graphics (aero): 2.9
    Gaming Graphics: 2.5

Driver 2023 w/ Performance Mode Disabled, Intel Display Power Saving Technology set to Off
    Graphics (aero): 2.9
    Gaming Graphics: 2.3

Driver 2023 w/ Performance Mode Endabled, Intel Display Power Saving Technology set to 6 (Max Quality)
    Graphics (aero): 2.9
    Gaming Graphics: 2.3

I still find aero to be choppy!

So in mild conclusion to performance alone (according to Windows) 2020 performs better but I cannot comment on stability yet. I too found my machine to freeze when scrolling in Word, IE, Firefox etc.

I will also try testing with Display Power Saving Technology Turned to Max Quality and Performance mode on to see how it behaves.

Thanks for the detailed info jai! I have been too lazy to try this tests myself.
It seems that enabling this Intel Display Power Saving Technology and disabling the Performance Mode does not hurt the system performance that much. I would expect much more significant differences.

    Keep up the good work!

    hey
a question: I formated my 751 and I can´t find where is the famous intel power saving technology thing. Could you tell me? Does it comes with the gma500 drivers? I don´t think I have that console working. And this: when I used to have vista, my aero dsktop evaluation was 2,4 and now with Win7 and nex drivers It´s an amazing 4,5. Could that be an error or something. Aero looks great to me with all the features on. Tell me where is that Intel Power Saving Tech!!!!

Your 4.5 score would seem to be in error unless you're WAY OVER CLOCKED. The Intel Power Savings feature is under the Intel popup menu and then under Display Settings and then under Power Settings.
