Unstable connection E160G

After many trials and tribulations the dongle is now detected by both mobile partner and gnome-ppp. I can now connect (in mobile partner the "connecting" window hangs for ever but I can actually go on line) butg after 10/15 minutes it disconnects and will not reconnect. I need to pull the dongle out and put it back in. I have also noticed that Aspire mail shows as not connected and will not send or received mail when connected via the E160. The connection is to the 3 network Any suggestions? Thanks
