On ACER distrib "linpus" no java runtime, no extra codec. I installed ubuntu eee and the package "ubuntu-restrited-extra, so all java, codecs etc... are so good !!
On ubuntu eee distrib webcam and wifi are totally good too.

    excuse my poor english ;)
    Bye from france

Have you tried Ubuntu UNR? If so, how do they compare?
(I use the UNR installed from usb img and find it works well)

    Thank you, Thank you.
I've had the Acer Aspire for a couple of weeks and I've given up trying to get the codecs to play AVI files.

After reading you post I installed Ubuntu Eee and WOW everything is fantastic, I can access my NAS drive and play my AVI file on the NAS. :D :D

    Thanks alot

Does UBUNTU eee still work with the AUFS for the SD card on the side port, so that drive space can be expanded with SD card.
