Hello. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop my daughter gave me after years of her kids using. Ugh. Any how. I got tired of seeing my son in-law on the screen. Plus it was win home. I installed Windows 10 Pro. I enjoyed fast boot up times. After 6 months or so. Boot up times were slowwwwww as time went on.
Then I installed Linux ZORIN. I had my fast boot up times once again. BUT AGAIN as time went on, boot up times were slowing down. It’s a HGST 750GB DRIVE. IT checked out ok when windows installed. Zorin I didn’t do any checking. I removed the drive because I have a WD 1TB DRIVE. On my desk computer I checked the 1TB DRIVE and partitioned it into two equal sized partitions. Formated FAT32. Installed into laptop and it didn’t like it. I had to use administrator level to run Diskpart to delete restore partition as disk manager can’t So after this was done ( same as 1tb ) the 750gb drive acts like it’s not there. I placed it back into the laptop. Now it get “ reboot and select proper BOOT device”. I thought I noticed something about SCSI I RESEARCHED did Toshiba use scsi hard drives in laptops. Highly unlikely was the bottom line on that. I can’t even get into the BIOS to see what it says about the drive. I’m at a loss at this

If you want to use the 1TB Drive, I would try just using Diskpart to 'CLEAN' it on your Desktop before installing it in the Laptop. If installing Win10 Pro again it will take care of initialising and formatting the disk for you. NTFS is the recommended and default format for both MBR and GPT Disks. No experience of Linux, so not sure about installation of that O/S. If you want to re-partition it afterwards, just use Disk Management in the Administration tools. If you want to speed things up a bit though, you would find a radical difference putting an SSD in.
If you can't get into BIOS using the Laptop keyboard - try plugging in a USB keyboard.
