I have this laptop Toshiba C50-A-145, majority of the time time when you press the power button it makes 3 long beeps then 2 shorts beeps, the laptop does not boot and can't even access the bios. I've replaced the ram but i'm still getting the same problem. I've searched for what the beeps codes mean, however, I have failed to find any information regarding the Toshiba beep sounds. i was hoping someone from this forum might have more information regarding this issue.

Welcome to the laptop forums site

3 long 2 short = ram mismatched or problems

    Refit your old ram.

Power on then Press F8 many times very fast, and try to enter Advanced boot options, you may have to try this procedure a few times

Thanks, now i know it's defiantly a ram related issue. The funny thing is when it boots the laptop works fine, however, when the laptop fails in pre-bios boot you have shutdown it down a few times and then eventually it will start up. I don't think the ram are actually faulty, i've tried a few (only used 1 stick of ram), I think the memory slots may have a dry solder joints.

Another thing is to remove the hibernation option in the control panel
the hibernation process can cause problems.

Sometimes the ram can suffer from a static build up, usually solved by
removing it then refitting the same ram.

    This mostly affects acer machines.

    I think i've fixed it.

I just retouched the memory slot with my soldering iron and so far so good.

I've shutdown and booted the system a few times now, usually I would have had a beeping sound by now, however, i've had a clean startup so far.
