There have been rumblings of this being needed on the forum, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm going to try to gather all the currently available batteries and provide some explanation of each. Of course this will all be obsolete tomorrow when the next round of after market batteries comes out. I've noticed a lot of new ones on ebay just this week.

First, a little bit about the structure of our batteries. (Note, I'm no expert here, just going off what I've read from other posts and what I remember from science class way back in the day.) Single cells are wired together in either series (to add together their voltage) or parallel (to add together their longevity in mAh). The Aspire uses 3 cells all in series to bring the voltage up to the 11.1 needed to run the computer. More groups of three can be added in parallel to add together more mAh. The standard 3 cell uses 2200mAh cells, so everytime 3 more cells are added, the mAh goes up accordingly to 4400 or 6600. Acer's 6 cell option is the odd man out using 2 sets of 2600 mAh cells to get to 5200mAh.

On to the batteries (I don't think anything is genuine on ebay, but they have the most options, if you want genuine look to CDW or sourceit):

2200 mAh, 3 cell, about 2.5 hours run time, sits flush with the case:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/UMPC-Acer-Aspire-ON ... 240%3A1318

4400 mAh, 6 cell, I would guess close to 5 hours just based on it being double the original 3 cell, sticks out like a 6 cell, pics are easy to find with google (I'm assuming it's the same size as the Acer 6 cell, the row of three that sits in the case, and the row of three that stick out the back):
    http://cgi.ebay.com/UMPC-Battery-Acer-A ... 240%3A1318

5200 mAh, 6 cell, this is the one Acer makes, but there are also 3rd party made ones on ebay now, there are easy to find topics on this forum about the battery life with this one:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/5-2A-new-Original-A ... 240%3A1318

6600 mAh, 9 cell, the original 2200x3 so I would guess 7.5 hours of battery, which I think is inline with what some who have this battery are seeing, pics available on page two of this thread:
    viewtopic.php?f=15&t=4708&start=10
and the battery on ebay (note that they show a 6 cell in the pictures, but the 9 cell is a row of three in the case, a row of three out the back, and a row of three out the bottom):
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Extended-9-Cell-Bat ... 240%3A1318

I hope this all makes sense and helps sort out the options.

Nice writeup. I didnt realise that the 4400 mAh batteries were less amp-hours than the Acer 6 cell. I am considering buying one of these except they don't come in white.. and I bet prices will drop in the future.

Thanks for that. I just checked out the pix of the 9 cell and HOLY COW! That's HUGE! Love it for the life, and also gives the One a nice handle to grab hold of.
EDIT: with the standard 2200 MAH I get 2 hours tops using wifi.

9 cell battery scares me. but its the best bang for the buck.. i just dont want to ruin the whole point of having a netbook by having a giant ass battery

Well you either have a small ass netbook that u can't power up portable or have a netbook with a big battery and can use it.

Yeah, I still can't decide which one I want, which was part of the motivation behind posting all the options in one place. I'd ideally like to hunt down a genuine acer 6-cell, but they are backordered at sourceit, and expensive everywhere else. The 4400 6-cells on ebay are cheap, but I'm not sure I trust an after market, 3rd party, foreign battery. If it doesn't work, I don't want to have to ship it back to China. Then again, I'm not sure the difference in capacity is enough to justify the price difference between the 4400 and the 5200, which makes the 4400 look good again. Then, there's that little bit of doubt in the back of my mind that says the 9 cell is not that bad sizewise and wondering if I might regret not having the most runtime possible. Then again, I take the machine with me a lot, but rarely get the time to pull it out and use it. It sees most of it's use docked at home as it's my main computer now. Do I really need more than the 3 cell I already have?

Sounds like me, no matter where i am with it i am near a plug usually. and i usually am not using it for that long away froma plug. I think I will wait untill Xmas time to see what the 6 cell market is like. The 9 cell is out of the story... just way too big i think.

I think the 9 cell is too big, but being able to use the One for more than 6 hours is probably worth it. My question is, will there be a 7800mAh version in the future? Since Acer has the 2600/5200mAh versions, why not add another bank and you just got 7+ run time.

there is another type of 9 cell 6600 mah battery, it's shaped differently (and personally I think it's uglier). I have ordered it, you can google for the 9 cell they have in stock at amazon.

Stupid question: If I bought a 3-cell Aspire One, can I buy a 6-cell battery to put in it? I would normally use the 3-cell for my around town use and to keep in the AO when I'm plugged in. But, I'd sure like to have a 6-cell for those times when I'm traveling and could use the extra battery time.

Certainly - just pop out the 3-cell and pop in the 6. Swap back whenever you want.

Possible to use UK batteries in US Aspire One?

I'm assuming the answer is no, but is it possible to use a spare battery purchased from a UK Aspire One seller in a US version Aspire One? I have the ZG5 model and love it, but really need a 6-cell battery instead of the 3-cell that came with it and I can't find one in the US.

    Thanks.

I think all batteries are the same so you should have no problem.

Re: Possible to use UK batteries in US Aspire One?

Thanks. It's a bit annoying that Acer doesn't sell a 6-cell replacement battery in the US. (I'm not sure if UK supplies will or are allowed to send parts to the US. Next step...)
