I notice the Acer display is specified to "only" 262k colors, rather than the 16 million common to most computer LCDs.

Can anyone comment about whether this is of any practical importance when, eg. viewing photos.

    TIA

As a pro photographer, I would not use the One screen as a reference image :)
I would not use it for clients to view my images.

If you want to view a larger image than what is displayed on your camera, the One screen is OK (for most people).
Bit depth and banding are not wonderful, but as I said, most folk will have no problems looking at general images.

Every TN-panel only has 262k "physical" colors, and most LCDs use TN-panels.
The illusion of 16 million colors is accomplished with dithering.

For dithering on the One read http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/dith ... l-and.html

Use the "intel" driver (in xorg.conf), not the i810 driver.
