I just installed the Intel 3945ABG interface into my AAO. I'm running Ubuntu and immediately I see a difference - in the same location the signal strength went from 54% to 83%... Seems to work out of the box with Ubuntu 8.04.1.

Thanks for your suggestion! I was very frustrated with the normal Atheros' WiFi. I am dual-booting windowsXP and Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. My WiFi would suddenly quit at critical times without warning. I would have to shut down and restrart several times before it would come back. Windows or Linux: Same problem. I found one of the Intel 3945ABG cards on Ebay, swapped it in and that was the end of my problems! Thanks a million!
