Just wanted to get some clarifications. I've heard from a few places that the SSD models use a PATA ZIF connector, while the HD models use some sort of SATA connection for the drive, and also that the HD models have a physically thicker case.

Is this true? I heard it mentioned by tankgirl in her takeapart video, and on one other site, but haven't seen corroboration anywhere else...

    Thanks,

    Robo

Comparing SSD against HDD is like comparing apple against orange.
Almost everything you can think of is different.

In AAO's case, HDD is better than the stock SSD in every possible case except for the size, weight and shockproofness.

Thanks ndirons. Seems like the SATA equipped mobo would be more versatile in the future, as I imagine that SATA is the direction new HDs and SSDs will be moving.

I couldn't find any info about whether the cases were any different though..

More of the bottom of the case protrudes on the HDD to fit the HDD although I don't think it impacts on computer thickness.

Basically, if you will want a Hard Disk then buy your AOA with a Hard Disk because it is difficult and expensive to upgrade. Not everyone will need or want a HDD.

If you have a choice, get the 6 cell battery (should not be an option).

Thanks. I've ordered one of the refurbished HDD models from TigerDirect, but only with the 3-cell battery. I'll see how it works out...

I was concerned it would be noticeably thicker, but if it's just an extra bulge on the underside, that's fine.

would swapping the HDD for and SSD result in more battery life?

i want to do this when i order mine but i need to know if it's worth getting the 6cell (i hate it sticking out) but i need more than 2.5 hours
