Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

I'm also having problem with KP. (Unsupported CPU...)
I've tried to follow guides but there is one step that doesn't work.

    When I run:
    "sudo kextcache -update-volume /Volumes/OSX"
    I get
"kextcache: pdate-volume: No such file or directory"
    so I guess "-update-volume" isn't valid.

I've also tried to run "sudo kextcache -u /Volumes/OSX"
but then I get "kextcache: /Volumes/OSX: unrecognized bootcaches data; skipping".

    Please help me out.

    sorry i missed these posts!
you should have got a disabler kext in either /s/l/e or your extra extensions.kext!
i guess you probably also forgot the decrypter kext in this case...
the two of them must work together or it is not a hackintosh!

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Yes, i'm trying to do the kextcache thing in Leopard since I haven't got a working Snow Leopard install.
Is it possible to run the kextcache from the SnowLeopard install disc? I get KP as soon as installer starts.

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

That's exactly what I have been talking about!
The kext caches have been changed since the first snow leopard build, so anything from 10.5.x will never get 10.6.x working!
You probably forgot the load the decrypter & disabler kexts onto your SL disc...
Try reading more tutorials about vanilla installation.
They are not exactly the same but will surely give you some answers to your questions! :)

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

thanks sp1950 for responding, but i just have a few questions:
    1. what build of snow leopard are you running?
    2. only the pc_efi v9 (and later) builds are snow leopard compatible, right? (and are there others snow leopard compatible?)
    3. to install the decrypter, u can just use the kexthelper tool, right? (im not striving for a "vanilla" system)

im going to do a complete reinstall, making sure that i can boot w/o the install drive, when i can; until then im gonna make a stockpile of the stuff i need.

ok, thats it for now, sorry for the list of questions, im goin away for a month with limited access to my aao and maybe no internet

btw: the dsdt patcher gives me an error when i try to run it in snow leopard, i select "darwin" and "force write" (or something with "force", its the last of the three options on the right) and i select my snow drive. ill upload the log if i get a chance

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

    you're welcome! :)
    1.
well, i got 10a380, 10a394, 10a402a, and the latest 10a411 running, and i guess the most updated dmg avail should be wwdc build 10a380 (the one i got)

    2.
    the latest sl-friendly bootloader is pcefi10 http://netkas.org/?p=113
you will need to have chameleon 2 rc installed and copy the new boot file to make it pcefi10
OR you can stick with pcefi9 with a sl boot file, but since both of them requires almost the same effort to install, I would prefer the pcefi10+chameleon2

    3.
if you are talking about install disc, why don't you just grab my customized extensions.mkext for 10a380? just copy it to the Extra folder of your install disc/partition and you are ready to go (of course a bootloader is still a MUST)

if you are talking about sl installation (the time just before you try to boot your newly installed snow leopard) , i guess you can only use either the same extra extensions.mkext method or do all the cp/chown/chmod/kextcache commands in the terminal in snow leopard install disc

you can always use kexthelper to install kexts when you get to snow leopard desktop (but by the time, i probably got the decrypters and disablers installed or you are using a real mac  )

as for the dsdt prob, i got sth like "while loop?" error.
just use the force compile flag since you would need a DSDT.aml if you want to use pcefi10 or it won't boot.
at least that's how i got my dsdt.aml

So good luck with your installation! ;)

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

i cant get it to work either. I have tried and tried and tried.

I am NOT doing anything wrong. I have the boot plist, boot file, pc efi v9, extensions mkext in extras, partitioned as gpt, disabler and dsmos........ and guess what, mine stops at ACPI unsupported CPU bit too. SO YOU GUYS ARE TALKING CRAP.

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

As I have stated in the beginning of the thread, THIS IS NOT FOR NOOBS OF ANY KIND
I guess you either got bad luck, or you missed that line out
Screaming around won't help you solve the problem.

I always expect the worst to happen for hackintoshes... even with vanilla installs!
I killed SL weeks ago by a seed update and i just reinstalled and updated and it's working fine here.
And if you think i'm bluffing bout getting sl running, read thru the posts and you can see some here got it right too! ;)
    So who's the one
    here?
    Enjoy snow leopard :D

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

I have finally got it working!
Seems like your 10a394 mkext does not work for me for unknown reason.
But with the original 10a380 mkext it works even when I upgrade all the way to 10a411.
Now I just need to find a way to make it dual boot... :? a bit worried...

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

Glad that it works for you :)
Building your own Extensions.mkext is way better than downloading mine...
    And it is easy too!
Just grab the "mkexttool" from insanelymac, and you can create your own mkext in no time!
Just drag and drop, choose dest, hit build and enter your password, and you are good to go!
And if you copied those io***.kext s, make sure you rebuild a new mkext using the new io***.kext s each seed update, or you will get lots of errors in the log.

Chameleon 2 + pcefi10 should give you a working dual boot bootloader. Just give it a shot ;)

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

noobs of any kind? LOL @ YOU. I have been using macs since 1994, I know my way round them more than 99% of the people who use them. So please don't try and call me a noob. More like the instructions are WRONG. Your mkext is to blame, so yes this is your fault. Amend your instructions prft.

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

    I ain't saying anyone here is a noob! :D
And how come a so called "mac guy since '94" can't even try to make his own mkext?
I uploaded what I used from my install disc, and I guess this could help ppl out.
I think a real mac guy understands osx more than I do and should be able to make their own mkexts, instead of f**king or b!tching around.
You don't even know what the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext is doing behind your back
The kext's kp sounds scary, but it's not even 1% of the ability to solve a simple problem with god-know-how-many-years of experience with macs!
I am not responsible for anything, so no this isn't my fault.
Even if my kext is faulty, pay attention to you piehole!
I WILL NOT reupload my kext coz of what you said!
Good luck and I guess you can never get it right if you ask for help in this way! :?
Stick back to your "real macs" if you really have/use 'em. Way cooler than hackintoshes! ;)
I have nothing to lose if you can't get osx installed!
The one who's suffering is Y.O.U! So watch you mouth
I can't be more happy if you can stop using osx on pcs

i think the "mac guy since '94" is still running OS 8.6 on some ancient powerpc mac
no need to get upset at someone who does not know anything about 21st century technologies

yawn at the pair of you. The fact of the matter remains, you're guide is faulty. End of. Your problem not mine and yeah i still stick to os 8.6 *rolls eyes* it was OS 6 back then.

Re: Snow Leopard - I got it installed + guide

The guide is what I've done to get SL running.
And I couldn't think of a SINGLE step that I missed.
So it's either the kexts you got are corrupted/you did something wrong (but u said this was not the case)
If u wanna get it running so desperately, why can't u just do something that everyone can do- ask politely?
All I can say is u should try to solve the prob yourself, mac guy.

to everyone else who got the unsupported kp:
    make sure u got disabler.kext and dsmos.kext
the cpu power mgmt kext should NOT be loaded/gives any log!

    do you want a warning?
It has worked for other people so clearly the guide is not faulty
if you dont like the guide/guy who wrote it, then go look elswhere for one, rather than keeping on saying the guide is wrong because it clearly isnt.
