hil, total newbie to linux here so bare with me!

have downloaded the tar files of amarok and now banshee but can never seem to install them as the add/remove programs packet manager says they are not there!

i tried extracting them in xarchiver but that always ends in a failure saying it cant do it,

obviously im missing something here, can anyone shed any light on it?

    thanks alot

    chris

Because they are not rpm packages. Why are you doing this instead of finding the rpm with the package manager? Also, they are mostly likely source archives or Slackware packages. Even if they do contain binaries, they mostly likely won't work on your system due to dependency issues.

Please search the forum on how to install Amarok.

Where did you get them from?

    HI,

Ah sorry i didnt know thats how you found it, so you simply search for amarok in the packet manager? even though it says it cant find anything?

I got them from the amarok website,

This is because you need to add the livna repository to the package manager. I told you to search the forum:

    http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7869&p=51246&hilit=amarok+install#p51246

    You downloaded the source code.

Don't "bin it". :) PM me and we can arrange to have you send it to me. I'll pay all shipping costs, btw. I know plenty of people that would love to get a cheap Aspire One.

    Cheers.
