Hi, new owner looking forward to Linux educatin :)

First things first though, I'm looking at putting a SIM card in the back of the machine behind the battery pack, but there is a plastic tape covering the hole. I poked at it and it went in, but I don't fancy putting the SIM card in there if there isn't a reader - could I check to see if this is just standard out of the box stuff or have I indeed, as I suspect, no SIM card reader :-/

    Much obliged :)

If you had the plastic tape, then you don't have a sim reader or mini PCI express connector.

You can always get a usb sim card reader for $5 and mod your netbook.

Why would you want to have a SIM card reader on you computer?

3G modems needs a SIM card. If the internal 3G modem had been in place from the factory on his AAO, the SIM card would be slotted in to it, behind the battery.

Ack well, as I feared. It was a selling point for me that it had one for 3G roam anywhere broadband, without needing a dongle.

Guess I'll be getting the dongle after all.
