shut off when on battery at 50% charge

When operating on battery, my laptop shuts down when charge is still 50%. I have a new battery and have calibrated it.

How are you measuring the 50% charge level - via the Windows tray icon, the BIOS or LEDs on the battery itself?

If you're using Windows, I wonder if the power settings have been reconfigured to shut down at 50%. Which OS and version are you running, and I'll find the instructions to check your battery shutdown settings.

 

I'm measuring it via the tray icon. I'm running Windows 7 home premium

I haven't used Windows 7 for a while, but I think you can check your battery shutdown level as follows:

Go to:

Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings

Then, under "Battery", expand the Low Battery option. In "On battery" set the value to 10% (or whatever you'd like).
