So, last night I went to use setfsb on the 751. I was assuming it would have the same clock generator as the other netbooks with this same chipset, but that seemed to give me an error. I don't have a screwdriver the right size to go digging for the clock generator number, and I'm kinda lazy too...but would love to play around with it if someone knows another way of figuring out which clock gen this uses.

Also interesting/frustrating, while fooling around with it last night I got CPUZ and looked at all the information it has. There is a reason one article states Z520 at 1.22ghz...I just thought it was a typo...but it seems fairly close to right. CPUZ actually shows it running at 1.24ghz, and when I hit win-break in XP, it shows the Z520 is 1.33ghz, but never shows it runnng over 1.24ghz. So, it seems not only did Acer find the slowest atom for this netbook, but slightly underclocked it, as well.

As a whole, though, it's working well enough...it does what netbooks do fine. I'm getting used to the keyboard more and more, and liking it a lot...it's a great form factor and feels still very netbooky when sitting on my lap (unlike the Dell mini 12 that has quite a bit bigger footprint).

thanks for the video of the 751 -- how'd you manage to get it? my walmart has taken them out of the cage as of yesterday and I don't want a blue one anyway--the white looks great.

I am worried most now about the speed. saw last night where the testing showed the 751 significantly slower than several other netbooks including the ASUS 1000HE I'm presently using. Was thinking of returning the ASUS and getting the 751 for the screen size, low weight, keyboard (like Chiclets), etc.

Have you run suites of tests on it after you installed XP?

I got it from someone off Ebay. He SAID he knew someone at Acer, but since it game with the Walmart tag on the box, I'm pretty certain he just managed to be lucky enough to get them to override the do not sell on their registers.

I haven't run many tests yet, just because I was pretty certain how it'd fair. If there is something specific you want me to run, to compare to your 1000HE though, I'd gladly download it and see.

Also of note...it's a bit hot...not terrible, but I think it does get a little warmer than some other netbooks I've had on my lap, but not as bad as many full-sized notebooks.

Will probably buy one cause I like all EXCEPT the speed slowdown. Hard to believe they'd use a slower chip, isn't it? What is rationale for using this chip over the other Atom? Are you going to install Win 7? I'm running it on 1000HE and is right quick. Haven't tested HD video (Vimeo) yet, however.

if you could overclock the atom z520 by increasing the fsb but not the voltage, would it consume more power?Because the z520 and z530 have the same tdp,the only difference is the multiplier...

Crystalmark scored about 2200 on XP and about 18500 on Windows 7. So...fairly close to what he had.

As far as Vimeo -- pretty much a no go...but, ya know...my N270 w/ GMA 950 combo netbook didn't do too well on vimeo either. It was better, almost watchable, whereas the Acer 751 was like 2 FPS.

I guess I'm going to have to find me a little screwdriver and go digging for the clock gen number.

i ran Crystalmark2004R3 on my ASUS 1000HE and got a Crystalmark of 24294 so that's somewhat better on that benchmark [if you were using the same one].

well, SETFSB is compatible. I could get it to about 1.45ghz that I think is pretty stable, but haven't run an all night stress test or anything yet.

CrystalMark2004R3 up to about 2500 now, and Super PI down from 2:01 to a now 1:42. Video performance is a bit better, but nothing that was unwatchable before has become watchable...just...less bad. :p I think it's performing pretty closely to my atom N270/GMA950 systems now, as far as everyday tasks.

Am I doing something wrong to get 24 thousand on the 1000HE while you're getting 25 hundred on the 751? Surely the gap is much smaller than that. it's probably me reading the wrong number in the elaborate CrystalMark report?

Well I wondered about that. So now we have the 751 performing pretty much just as the ASUS 1000HE? That makes it (751) a lot more attractive.

well i tried to use setfsb but i didn't find the right clock generator to move the fsb
Can you post me the one you used for?

This is what I like about forums. Even at the stock settings the numbers aren't hugely below the ASUS. And overclocked they're almost identical! Have you done longer term testing to see that it can sustain that overclock?

All this suggests that the early reviews are too pessimistic about the 751, do you agree? And what of the complaints about the keyboard flex (I know you mentioned this in your 1st vid) and the way the screen flexes and the other complaints.

Maybe you could do a "Next Week with the 751" video. I think the first two are getting a lot of play on youtube.

Anyway, much thanks for the figures.

Also, anyone else who runs CrystalMark -- please publish your results!

    NOW IT WORKS!!

I run some test then i'll post my result

Did you succeed in trying gmabooster as well? I tried but it seems it doesn't work with the poulsubo chipset for now..

ok my netbook running 133mhz reach a beautiful not convergent in sqr in super pi 1M.
It seems it need more vcore to run slightly at standard frequencies. Now i understand why acer put a 124 fsb for now in the factory bios. Maybe some of those cpu by intel doesn't reach neither standard frequencies at standard vcore. I hope they make a new bios with a little bit much vcore and standard frequencies

    Superpi 1M at 1330 mhz 1'55"

    Great thread guys.

This is the first time I'm using SetFSB. Can someone tell me should I change the upper scale or the lower one?

Upper says 160/760. Lower says 325/760

As you can see I already changed the upper one a little bit. That went well.

Has anyone tried any 3D games on the 751 like WoW on lowest settings...they say drivers are really bad,but maybe it's better now with the new ones?
