    Hi all,

Am new to this board and wondering if it would make sense to have a separate discussion area for those who have the 120GB HDDs with XP? This is the model Acer Aspire One I have, with 1GB of RAM as purchased new from Microcenter.

Seems like the tweaks, tips and etc. are very different for those who have this configuration as opposed to those who are using SSDs and/or Linux.

    Thanks,
    CincyDave

Search slickdeals for a cheap external dvd drive if you want to go that route.

I recommend a cheap and easy solution if you have another pc.

On my old pc, I right-clicked its DVD drive from windows explorer and then enabled sharing. On my new Aspire One, I went to windows network neighborhood and browsed for my old computer and its dvd drive. I was then able to install quicken from CD, just like that. No problems. So far, that's the only need I've had for a CD/DVD drive and don't expect I will need it again. When I need to upgrade Quicken in the future, I will download it.

I recommend an external USB hard drive for backup.

I bought my external drive from Officemax and its for $60. Its a LITEON brand, lightscribe edition.
This is the cheapest one I have ever seen so far from all the electronics store I have been to.

    Software:
    -recommend EVERNOTE
-AntiV - NOD 32 if you can

was thinking about doing that dave, but there is very little difference other than the size of the drive.
using windows xp, will be covered in the windows forum section anyhow.
tips are simlar to both models.
