I'm not selling these myself, just passing along a good deal. Bought from Overstockdealz.com, recieved in 4 days, was new, still in static bag, not a I-pod pull. Working fine. Their web site says shipping to the US only though. http://www.overstockdealz.com/products.asp?id=HS040HB

EDIT: May 9, 2009 These drive are now listed for $24 US, but still a good deal.

    Hi

I bought this drive but damaged the zif cable while trying to connect it - is there a special cable I need to buy and any ideas who might sell it?

    Thanks

    Many thanks for your reply.

Just for interest what would be the difference in performance between the Samsung 40GB hard disk and a SanDisk Extreme 3 16GB CF Card?

I assume either can be connected with the same ZIF cable as I have a CF to ZIF adapter.

    Cheers

    Chris

    Chris,

It's the "write" speed that is so slow on the original SSD. The CF mod will get you about halfway to where you would be with a 4200 rpm HDD. Here is what I've read in these forums about write speeds.

    Intel SSD 10 meg.
    CF 20 meg.
    Samsung HDD 30 meg.

Check out this thread on SSD's especially page 31-32.

    Re: Samsung HS040HB

    Jim

Just an update on how things are not going.....

    As mentioned before I purchased a Samsung SpinPoint HS040HB - Hard drive - 40 GB - internal - ATA-100 - 7200 rpm - buffer: 2 MB
and a 10cm ZIF cable from Ebay.

Disc works fine in a ZIF to USB connector to another computer but no good in the Aspire
Even an SD card in a ZIF adapter does not work in Aspire - neither does original SSD
    (Do not have original cable)

Have been very careful - don't think I have damaged anything - but discs do not appear on bootup

    Any suggestions for next step

    Thanks

    Chris

Have you looked in the bios settings (F2 at power up) to see if the drive shows up and what it's boot priority is?
