    Hi all.

I just sent an email request to Acer Technical Support requesting that in the next BIOS for the Aspire One, they allow us to disable the onboard 512 megs of RAM so that we can install a 2GB DIMM and have it recognized by the system.

If you would like to see support for 2 GB RAM in the Acer Aspire One, let's all email them with similar requests. Here is the link I used:

    http://acer.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/acer.c ... d=Od-UQKpj

This seemed like the best place to send an email, but if you have any better ideas please let us know.

its a netbook come on... expecting way too much out of a netbook
its just for internet and other web browsing...
it's hard to complain to get 2 gigs for a company like acer.
I like your idea though :)

Well, I just thought it would be good if people who are interested in having 2 GB let Acer know... the 10" model is due to support 2 GB. I can play EverQuest on my Asus Eee, and wanted the 2 GB on the Aspire One mainly for this application.

I guess my email to Acer Technical Support was translated to Chinese for them and they didn't understand it, because they replied that the Aspire One only supports 512 megs on the motherboard.

??!!??!! Not even remotely what I asked them. :(

Oh well. Guess I will keep using the Eee.

This is completely pointless. You've just wasted half an hour of life.

Well, the point would be that if enough people let them know we would like support for disabling the onboard 512 megs of RAM, they might consider giving it to us if all it takes is a change to the BIOS.

However I think you are correct and that I'm wasting my time. I thought that more than one other Acer Aspire One user would be interested in this. Guess not.

Apparently Acer is going to continue refreshing the 8.9" line, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the legacy "cheap Linux device" features like the onboard RAM and the extra SD slot go away. Doubt you'll get a BIOS update to disable soldered RAM for the old model though.
