The webcam on my A150 stopped working. Searching including here suggested that buying a new webcam board on ebay and installing it was the easiest fix.

Well, I did that. Booted the system and Windows told me it found a new USB Crystal Eye camera. I opened a utility to view the camera and it worked -- for a few seconds. Then the image froze. Trying to close and re-open the software produced a message that it couldn't connect and perhaps some other program had it locked.

I rebooted and now the webcam is missing from the system again; it's not visible in Device Manager. Same problem as with the previous cam.

Is this 'give up and buy an external webcam' time?
