    Hi to all,

I buy this beautiful laptop for my daughter, she is 7 years old. Just to be sure that she didn't remove any important file I would like to unable the "del" key as well as the removing file option, from some directories. From my little experience in Unix I have applied a chmod -w to some files but, it looks like, if I press the canc or del key those files are removed (without any warning message-box).

Some idea on how to solve that ?

    Thanks.

    Filippo.

If you are running the standard (simple) desktop in linux, all you need do is remove the file manager option in the menu.

The files aren't being deleted, they are being moved to Trash, select Trash from Go menu of the file manager to view the files in Trash.

To disable the Delete key create a /home/user/.Xmodmap file and add the line keycode 107 = to it and the key will be disabled from the next time you load your desktop. To get an immediate, but temporary effect, type xmodmap -e "keycode 107 =" into a command line.
