I know you want a GUI but you can get rdesktop in the terminal, which I use to connect to a Windows 2008 server. Just enter

    sudo yum install rdesktop

in the terminal and you can connect via rdesktop. There should be some nice gui clients for this available, too. But I do not use them.

I second the VNC. I haven't tried the others, but I use VNC for many purposes ;D

Hm, I have been trying to set this too. I installed rdesktop, it works fine through the terminal. I read in another forum that one GUI is called Grdesktop, but could not find it in any repository. I tried to install tsclient to no luck, it needs some Gnome dependencies (gnome-desktop and several others) which conflict with Xfce and do not install (error message during install). Any other suggestions for a rdp GUI that works in Xfce?

You can actually safely ignore the dependencies in tsclient. So if your feeling a little daring you can download the rpm and install it... If you did a "yum install -y tsclient" after it fails it will leave the rpm lying around on the file system. Otherwise it can be downloaded directly from http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/f ... 8.i386.rpm.

    It'll be in /var/cache/yum/fedora/packages/tsclient-0.150-5.fc8.i386.rpm
So if you do rpm -i --nodeps /var/cache/yum/fedora/packages/tsclient-0.150-5.fc8.i386.rpm

This will get it for you if all else fails.
    Code:
    wget [url]http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/8/Everything/i386/os/Packages/tsclient-0.150-5.fc8.i386.rpm[/url]
    rpm -i --nodeps tsclient*

then add /usr/share/applications/tsclient.desktop as an icon on your desktop.

However, having an rpm lying around installed with failed dependencies isn't always the best idea, but tsclient has nothing that depends on it as such.

Yes, tsclient works without all satisfied dependencies. Thanks for the tip.

The rdesktop works great to a Windows 2003 server. Is there anyway to create an icon in the launcher? I am reading posts about it now and will give it a try.

Okay, so far i solved the problem, but not the way i think it should be.
I installed windows XP, used the drivers as in the drivers section, and didnĀ“t get wireless......
I noticed that in stead of the 5006 card windows showed the 5007.
When i used the troubleshoot option in the device manager, i saw both of them.
That was the turning point for me.
I did the Linpus recovery thing, cleaned it a little up, and brought it back to the vendor(Mediamarkt).
I got a brand new one, and so far wireless still works. I got the One today, so far so good.
I am afraid to apply the updates, i' ll wait and apply them after my holiday.
I also have the impression that this One is working more quietly, but i keep a sharp eye.............
I still think that Acer or Linpus should be capable to fix the wireless problem, or did i get a pre production model at first?
And you should see the translation of the Dutch language, it is beyond all levels...........
Still i do like the One, :D

Hi I'm having trouble installing tsclient using the instructions above. I've installed rdesktop.
i've downloaded tsclient using the get command.
after "rpm -i --nodeps tsclient*" i get an error "can't create transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/__db.000"

Does anyone know what the solution would be? Sorry I'm new to Linux.

About a month ago, I managed to pickup my Mac Book in a way that cracked the screen. When I purchased the One, I envisioned that I would use it to browse the web on the road and also be able to connect to my desktop at work via VPN. After much reading about how to setup a remote desktop client and establishing a VPN connect, and several false starts, I gave up and installed XP. Mostly because I have done this a few times before, it took me about five minutes to create the VPN connection and access my desktop.

rdesktop works great and i don't think a gui is really necessary. All you have to do is type rdesktop -f <ipaddress> I don't know how much easier it can get.

When i use ts client on my ubuntu machine i get the option of " add my local drive to the remote computer " ,but in linpus with ts client i dont get the option .Is this a version difference or maybe because there is no samba present ...?

just add this option to your command for launching rdesktop:

    Code:
-r disk:<name_to_appear_on_remote machine>=<directory you wish to make available on remote machine>

    An example would be:

    Code:
    -r disk:aspire=/home/user/

This will make a new network drive called 'aspire' which contains the contents of your base folder on your One.

I would be surprised if someone hasn't made a python GUI for handling rdesktop - something I might consider doing if the demand was great enough.
