Okay, I'm running the preloaded linpus os and in the XFCE menu I have an option named 'Recovery XP' under System. Does anyone else know if this is in fact an XP recovery partition or merely a placeholder for one on XP machines.

Very odd. I'd not noticed it. It launches /usr/bin/umpcd2dgen.sh. I don't speak bash very well, but there's some stuff in there about the grub bootloader.
