I installed Quake III Arena on my Aone and it's working perfectly. I'm really amazed!!!
Smooth animation, easy controls (a mouse is mandatory) and good sound!
Check the video here (not easy to play while filming ;) ):

Hum.... nice dude, so it means the lcd is quick enought for FPS ;)
What about the network gaming, did you try already ?
I'll try also and let you know, I prefer this kind of game rather than the linux integrated redneck games

Can you please post a "tutorial" on how to install this game? I'm new to the world of Linux.

You just need to activate the advanced menu :
- launch the Add/Remove Software program in System menu
- clic in the search tab : look for " q3 "
- select two packages named quake3 ( as on the attached picture )
- and that's all, you find the game in the games menu and after the first launch the game will download the required package ( pk3 files )

To get more pk3 and maps, you can install the openarena mod using the yum cmde :
$ sudo yum install openarena

Have fun 8-)

Thank you!

With the second package being the demo files, will it still play online? I still have my (very) old original quake 3 cd so would it be better to copy the pak files from that?

You can play online with the demo. The only limitation is the number of maps/characters you can play.
You can try installing the pak file from your original QIII and check online which maps (demo or full game) are the most played.

I cant seem to run it :(

I got the pop up coming up for the demo download but it never seems to download
I go into the .q3a folder and there is nothing there, so I created a folder baseq3 and pulled in the pak files off my disk but now when I click on Quake3Area nothing seems to happen, do you need something else, can any one help? Or provide a link to demo files. Thanks

Ive got the exact same problem - tried both CD and download demo!

Code:
home/q3a/baseq3

pak0.pk3 pak2.pk3 pak4.pk3 pak6.pk3
pak1.pk3 pak3.pk3 pak5.pk3 q3config.cfg

Any help greatly appreciated thanks!

Ive gotten this working, turns out i was copying my files to "q3a" and not ".q3a". if you have installed Quake then this folder will exist in your home/user directory, even though you cant see it when you ls, you can cd into it.

I also ran the update file in usr/bin.

To say this runs would be an understatement, it flies!!!

hey, it says installation worked out ok, but I cant find it on my desktop.

any help?

You have to supply the file name and edit it into the group-app.xml file. Search for Skateasian's Youtube video on the subject of adding icons to the desktop.

"Your system currently is not capable of hardware accelerated 3D. Therefore quake3 cannot run.

Usually the cause of this error is that there are no Free Software drivers for your graphics card, please contact your graphics card manufacturer and kindly ask them to provide Free Software support for your card."

:?: :?:

May be due to changes made in your system. It does work on default Linpus, in any case.

Changes made :
VLC
Amsn
advanced desktop
compiz
firefox 3
avast
bios 3.114

And if i try foobillard (opengl billard) it's ok ...

:D
