Problems Loading Internet Home page

Hi,
when turning on my aspire one everything loads as it should and the icon appears with the message "connection established" confirming that i have connected to the internet. The connection is Wi-fi via a Belkin 54 router connected to my desk top pc in another part of the house. However when i then click the browser icon to open the the home page it tells me that the "server not found". Having tried all the basic stuff to correct this problem without success i am at a loss and would appreciate any help that is offered.
Have owned the notebook for 6 months and have no problems like this previously.
